If you use Firefox 3.0 and a screen reader, then I strongly recommend you check out Webvisum: http://www.webvisum.com.
Webvisum is an add on to Firefox which offers several interesting accessibility enhancements, the coolest being the ability to solve many CAPTCHAS! Yes, it's not perfect, but this really does work! So far, I've tried it on 6 or 7 sites, and it's been able to solve about 50% of the CAPTCHAS I've thrown at it. An example of a site where it has worked for me is http://forum.xda-developers.com/

Web Visum is Awesome!!. I have the latest version of firefox, and I tried it on some websites too. I like it a lot.

I have it as well. I gave it a shot on myspace, and I got through.
I heard somewhere that it's limited to 10 captcha solves per account. This is to stop spammers. I'm not sure if it's 10 a day or it really is only 10 for each account. If it is, it's not going to be popular once you've run out of capcha solves now is it? The other useful feature can also be found in system access so there's nothing really new there. I think the only thing selling this thing at the moment is the captcha solving, and if what I said earlier is true, then it's going to get old real fast.
I know there is a daily limit on CAPTCHAS, and I wouldn't be surprised if that limit is 10. But, the whole thing would be pointless if you were only ever limited to 10 per account. If it's 10, then I'm 99.9% sure it's 10 per day. The other way just wouldn't make sense.
Any chance such a program exists for IE? I suppose I should take the time to learn firefox, but that time is probably not right now. I've also heard that ff works much better with jfw 9, is this correct?
So wait, this thing actualy sollved the catcha on Myspace?Omg thats awsome!Only down side is; that i am not to fond of fF. FF for me, it just reads things way to diffrently, Idk.Guess I am stuck in my old ways? lol.
but thanks Al for telling us about this!I'm sure it is use-full,and when I stop beeing so lazy I may very well actualy start using FF more, thus start using that thingy.thanks much..

Hi all. The account limit question is posted in Webvisum's FAQ page, and I'll paste it here for you all as well.
Q: How will you prevent spammers from abusing your CAPTCHA solving techniques?
A: We place a limit on the number of CAPTCHAs that can be solved per account per
day and we employ more under the hood protections to recognize and disable accounts
that do not belong to humans.
I must admit I haven't installed FF3 on any of my pc's (only my win98 machine runs FF2 at the moment), but I certainly will put it on at least one to test Webvisum after this. Thanks to the original poster.
And for those of you that are hesitant to switch from IE to FF, in the FF help menu, there is an item for Internet Explorer users that should make things more easy to learn once you've decided to install it. And of course, you can still use IE while FF is installed.
Fuster Cluck, as to your question, that is correct. FF3 works real well with JFW9, and no, their is nothing that I know of, that will do the same thing for IE.
Hmm, interesting. I've been thinking about trying Firefox for a while now and this aplication is going a long way towards convincing me. Thing is, I have JFW 6.2 installed on my desktop. Will FF be compatible with that screenreader?
To krisme:
No, Firefox isn't compatible with JFW V6.2, you need at least V7.0 for Firefox 2.
Unsure if Firefox 3 works with Jaws V7.0, but from what I've seen, no, not really, for that, you do need Jaws 9, sorry to say.
Opa! I thought Firefox was just plain inaccessible. I know it is with the Mac anyway. Does it work with the latest version of Hal or NVDA? If so, then I'm definitely installing this thing on my Mac when I put XP on it with Fusion.
Hal, I'm not sure, but NVDA works just fine with it.
How similar is ff to IE7?
I'm not really sure on how similar it is to IE7, but your downloads run in the background, making them go about twice as fast.
yeah and you are stuck to using jaws 9 which has quite a few bugs. I think that this plug-in for one, needs to be more universal. For another, it needs to implement a better system for solving captchas that forces you to use an account. What if for example, we have an application that asks us to enter a code? how're we doing that then? I doubt a spammer is going to use such a tool to abuse things. The most you could do is probably send messages every inute or so even of web visum had its security out of place (by using an account based service). Firefox 3 crashes with every version of jaws out there except for 9.
Juan, u do need an account to even download the plugin.
I'm aware of that. Then you need it everytime you wish to "use the service". I can think of a captcha solver that would solve a captcha every 2 minutes... or even, limit the send on the website itself... captcha's are not even the best anti-spam protection method out there. These losers are ending up with the biggest successful marketted product.
webvisum kicks ass! Just installed it yesterday.
You shouldn't have to register to use it.
